I think most *nix users have a .profile even though most of them
import a common .rc or similar.

And anyway, when I looked at the ticket, the "dsn" that's suggested
there isn't the dsn I had in mind, which is the configured connection
info in Windows.  That kind of DSN abstracts all the config of a data
source as a single name:
