The new permissions stuff being worked on for the Summer of Code
projects might help a bit with this situation, since it would be
possible to (thanks to one project) generically extend the permissions
system and (thanks to another) assign permissions based on the
indiivdual object instead of the model as a whole; for example, it
would then become possible to say, for example, "company A can edit
periodical #12 and articles 53, 22 and 76, but no others".
