pyfacebook has not been updated in over 2 years and uses the deprecated REST API, so it would be a bad place for a beginner to start. I would try using either one of the various unofficial forks of the official Facebook SDK (I prefer PythonForFacebook's [1], but I might be biased because I have commit access), or one of the two "django-facebook" libraries (PythonForFacebook's [2] or Thierry Schellenbach's [3]).
