To add to what others have said, use the development version, definitely, except I would strongly recommend that you use the newforms-admin branch. This is the future, but it will be some time before it is merged to the trunk. This branch usually does not lag behind the trunk for more than a couple weeks. It is the "right" way to do the admin backend, because it separates the admin configuration from the database model. The challenge for a new Django user, however, will be that any online documentation for the admin does not apply at all to newforms-admin.
