Even better is the <canvas> element and it has good coverage on recent browsers with the help of explorercanvas <http://code.google.com/p/explorercanvas/> for Internet Explorer, although the drawing must be done dynamically with javascript. <http://code.google.com/p/flot/> is an example of a library which uses the <canvas> element to draw graphs.
