This is off-topic, but I read yesterday that Microsoft is coming out with a 
product called "Flow" that treats email like instant messaging. You contact 
anyone on your list with an email address and send them a message. The backend 
is email/SMTP but the front-end is like instant message. So, the distinction 
between instant messaging and email is blurring even now.
