I agree.

We send DAT's off to the press house not CDR's...more reliable and more professional all around.

I like to use this analogy from work:

I back up company filez to data DDS4 DAT tape because the error rate is something like 1 bad bit for every 10^15 bits written...very good....not sure on the spec for cdr's but it's a lot higher.... that's why you use DAT tape, the error rate is much lower than cdr's and their longevity is much higher...granted I rarely have a bad burn after doing the standard crc check on a cdr....but it's higher than with DAT tape.....

DAT's just cooler :)

peace

maybe.
when you use a cd you end up delivering a master for digital copy. because errors  might occur during the process, this all will be copied to the glass-master as signal, resulting in errors in the whole process. As for bass lost, i don't think that the issue is that simple, but can happen ocassionaly.
If you want to make sure that your audio is not going to suffer any changes, then DAT in  is a much more reliable storage medium... in my opinion.

has anyone noticed a difference in quality when you take a CD to be mastered as opposed to DAT? i know there shouldn't be a difference in quality, but i've heard people swear that you get better bass with DAT... could it be?

nice one,
