Its old but true - Yamaha's old faithful book "Sound Reinforcement Guide" gives you all the specs and goes into room acoustics deeply (heaps of physics and math) but it helped me with a few basics that we tend to forget. I'm sure theres friendlier online versions of the book somewhere...it isnt the easiest book to get here in Australia but maybe not so in the UK. Sorry this prob doesnt help much!

Well i think i've got the main source of the problem licked, but the
acoustics in this room are also a bit weird (big room, high ceiling, etc.)
which sort of gives everything a bit of a "reverby" sound.  My monitors are
set up in one corner of the room and are both close to the wall (which to my
understanding, generally provides more a bass response)

Any hints or links to get help on room acoustics and phase cancellation?
