I really wouldn't pay any head to that stuff about AMD not being good for DAWs or compatibility...
I've got an ABIT KT7A RAID MB which RME themselves say probably won't work... I'm running a Hammerfall DSP in WinXP and it's the most stable machine I've ever worked on! -----Original Message----- From: PANTHER [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 04 April 2002 17:03 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Processor/Motherboard Combo recommendations I second that notion ayan, make SURE your audio card is compatible with your mobo I have a Laya20 and they don't like VIA chipsets.....I'm dropping it soon..... Ayan I would recommend RME for your next card...their knowledge base and driver quality looks fantasic! On the AMD tip for a new pc staight form my new card manuf. mouth: The RME Reference PCs 2002 We don't feel comfortable at the moment to present an AMD-based computer as Reference PC. This has a number of reasons: there are lasting problems and bugs with almost every chip-set for AMD processors, alternative chip-sets are still too new, and some motherboards have still unexplained incompatibilities or quality problems, and if there are any performance advantages of the AMD processors at all, they are only marginally less expensive. Of course we keep on watching, so this may change at any time. http://www.rme-audio.com/english/techinfo/refpc/index.htm but F0CK all this noise, I'm gettin a MAC soon! peace LOS ----- Original Message ----- From: "ayan pal" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, March 28, 2002 3:28 PM Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Processor/Motherboard Combo recommendations > i too would be iffy about switching to an athalon system. from my *personal > experience*, an all intel system is the way to go as far as being hardware > compatible. i have a layla 20 sound card that doesn't work at all with my > old mobo, had to get an intel chipset instead. > > ayan > > > At 02:15 PM 3/28/2002 -0500, you wrote: > >i love fruityloops to death, and vst synths and effects are a godsend... > >unless you're running a p3 at 500mhz. i increased my ram to 392mb, but that > >still hasn't helped as much as i would have liked. a new soundcard > >(terratec 88d) also helped out with some processing and latency, but i'm > >convinced that my processor's still the weak link. > > > >so i want to get an athlon processor and a motherboard with nothing onboard, > >that will be very compatible with other people's hardware, and a cooling > >fan. i was wondering if any of you recommended which athlon processor to > >get, and which motherboard to get (assuming money really isn't a problem). > >i've been looking at www.pricewatch.com and their prices i'm kinda iffy > >about switching over to an athlon system, but everyone says they're better > >for sound editing, so what the hell. > > > >thanks, > > > >joe > > > > > >--- > >Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk > >You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >To unsubscribe send a blank email to > >[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > --- > Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk > You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
