I've only used some version of Acid shortly, but it looked a good way to play loops & 
samples.  I didn't find anything to make your own beats out of individual hits in that 
time (and I don't think Acid had anything like that) nor any way to "create" your own 
sounds.
So basically, you still need some other software to make the loops & samples, before 
you 
can lay them down in Acid.
And frankly, I can do that in Fruity as well (besides perhaps that easy-timestreching 
thingy)
