Yeah I can do that too, but if you think about it you've set the envelope/decay settings for the drum parts etc. at the slower speed.. When you speed it up you are effectively changing the size of the gaps in between the beats but keeping the beats the same length... Which will result in the timing you've spent so much time getting right being tinkered with again..
I'm sure you know what I mean but as an example if you take a drum loop that you've set up nicely as midi data (at, say, 120 bpm) and individual drum samples and then you double the tempo (to 240 bpm) it will just sound like a load of drum samples being triggered really quickly (like mush)... Whereas if you mix the break down at 120 bpm and then timestretch it to 240 bpm it will probably still sound pretty crappy but the timing etc. will be the same as the original break.. Does that make sense? Did I get the wrong end of the stick? cheers, Nick -----Original Message----- From: Trust [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 01 August 2002 21:58 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: Slowing down the tempo... I guess it depends how you build your tracks. I sequence everything using midi+sampler so all i have to do is adjust the bpm on playback and everything plays slower. trust -----Original Message----- From: Nick Lankester [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2002 7:21 AM To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Slowing down the tempo... I've picked up a slightly twisted habit recently of listening to DnB tracks at a slower tempo (using a tempo adjusting plugin for winamp)... I know that a lot of people slow the track they're working on down a bit to make editing the breaks easier but what's the best way to go about doing it? Is it best to mix the break down at the slower tempo and then timestretch it to full speed? or is there a better way? anyone know? cheers, Nick --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
