Im just learning theory myself, but I know this much- its perfectly within your right as a musician to "invent" new chords in order to create whatever harmonic effect you desire. I had a conversation with a rock musician recently who informed me that many of rocks "power chords" arent even true chords- they are homegrown "music theory bastardizations" of a sort. Also remember that alot of "phat" synth sounds are made by detuning one oscillator against another (essentially making one of them slightly OFF KEY!!")!!! The laws of both electronic music production and "good music theory" SUPPORT your right to tune, detune, or hit whatever goddamn keys you like so long as it makes a sound that you (and we will ) dig, whether that be a pretty sound, a scary one, or whatever your trying to accomplish.

So your right, if it sounds right, then it is.  Just make sure you let it sit for a day and listen to it with fresh ears.  If it happens you really have made a truly "off key" or "ugly" sound , I assure you it will leap right out your monitors and let you know.
