i recently bought a behringer v-amp2. it is an incredible value (got it for $130 US). its great to be able to plug my guitar straight into my desk, but it also really twists up basslines as an efx box.

Steinberg Warp is the by far the best amp sim ive ever encountered. Very warm and authentic sounding overdrive and distortion. Definately a good
onefor bass. Steinberg Quadrafuzz is also a good general distortionplug-in -makes things loud and (very) crunchy, but is a bit 'colder' and moredigitalsounding.
