yeah I cut everything up in recycle and always use the same groove quantise on all my drums so that the timing is spot on - the problem I'm having is getting the two or three snares to sound like one fat drum, rather than two / three drums stacked on top of each other...

I find if I make a drum loop (using whatever method) and then convert it
into a Rex file using Recycle and then stick that into the Rex player on
Reason you get decent midi control over the timing of the beats. You can
also adjust pitch, filter, effects for each individual hit. If a snare or
whatever is out of time slightly, you just move it along on the Drum Roll
editor in Cubase/Logic - but more often than not you don't need to do this.
I'm sure a similar thing can be done using normal samples and a sampler, but
I really like the integration of all the parameters in one file format - not
forgetting the 'stretchyness' of rex files!

Terry,
yeah I did mean hz, that 33hz thing is something that I'm experimenting with
after speaking to one of the engineers at the studio where I work. I maaged
to get it to sound OK a few times but with a bassline over the top if
sounded pants. from what your saying it sounds like the 33hz is just a bad
idea, think I'll leave it alone...
But what about snares, I've been experimenting with layering up snares, one
bright one eq'd around 4khz for the 'snap' and a more wooden one aaround
800hz for more body / fatness. It sounds ok-ish but I'm having alot of
problems getting them to sit right, I've tried getting them into the same
pitch and making sure the waves both peak in the same place but still often
sounds like a an out of time mix, with the snares 'clanging' slightly. Any
tips?
cheers
