To follow up on that, layering snares make them sound muddy., You have to kind of throw your conventional idea of what a snare is out the window, when the snare drum was created on a real drum kit, the purpose behind it was to create a quick mid-range noise hit to represent the up beat, but now that we are in the electronic world, we have more control over whatever the real drum kit was aiming to do. So all you really gotta think of it as is a quick midrange snap, and work around the idea of sculpting that, and for now stay away from the idea that you HAVE to use a conventionally made snare or snare sound to be the snare.
