Todays D&B lacks dynamics and a special thing called harmonics.  Its so processed that all of the "natural" aspects of the sound have been cleaned out.  The Old-Skool shit was so good because it sounded natural.  Even the synth sounds were full  "phat" sounding.  Phatness is more about having full harmonic content, high volume and natural dynamics than what D&B sound systems have made it to be.  I fully agree with EQ'ing the parts to get them to separate, and compressing parts like the bass that easily get out of control.  But compressing everything, and EQ'ing everything just for the sake of having that "Kleen Phatnezz" sound is just stupid.  If producers today, used the time arranging and composing that they stupidly waste doing these overdone technical routines maybe they could improve the music a bit...Its all about having a phat raw sound before you even start to mixdown...   ---
