I just upgraded to 5.7c1, and kept all my old configuration files.
But somehow, posts aren't expiring. The following is my expire.cong file:

I really only have 2 groups: alt.assassination.jfk and control.cancel.
I want them to expire after 30 days.
Day based expiration is 'unpredicatable' due to the size of the bucket files, as
only entire buckets are deleted dnews can't delete items at exactly the right
times.
To fix this, if you only really carry non binary groups set a small bucket size,
e.g.
bucket_size 1000000
The default is 10mb, so decreasing this to 1mb as above is probably enough to
make expiration more predictable
