Found it. Synaptic is great. Describes it as an SCSI CLI. Well done since hotplug keys and even sata drivers use the SCSI API.

BTW, there is more than one way to set up (for the local admin)
meaningful /dev-names. And if you don't want to bother with any /dev
nane, you can (manually) check with "sg_mag -x -i" to see which device
is which. Regards, /Karl Hammar
Dear Karl, could you give us more details. Couldn't find any
"sg_mag" , neither in apt-file (Wheezy), nor in Google.
Should be a typo. On my Gentoo there exists sg_map, part of /sg3_utils.

hafi@i5_64 ~ $ sg_map -x -i
/dev/sg0 2 0 1 0 5 /dev/sr0 HL-DT-ST DVDROM DH18NS40 1.01
/dev/sg1 3 0 0 0 5 /dev/sr1 HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50 TN03
/dev/sg2 3 0 1 0 0 /dev/sda ATA SAMSUNG HD103UJ 1118
/dev/sg3 4 0 0 0 0 /dev/sdb ATA SAMSUNG HD103UJ 1118

Hartmut, many years ago user of Sid. :)
