OK, let's put the drama down. The mail list server (mailman) works, and very well indeed. There is just a bug in lurker (the program that puts together the web archive), due to a hash collision on certain kinds of messages. If anybody with a bit of experience in C/C++ has time to dedicate to it, I can explain what needs to be done to fix it.
