I understand dnsmasq is an forwarding dns server and I was wondering if there is a way to configure it to do dns lookups using it own IP external address instead of the server forwarders, maybe just for URIBL lookups ...

afaik there isn't. iterative queries aren't built into dnsmasq.

dns-forward-max=256
server=208.67.222.222
server=208.67.220.220

What are other dnsmasq users doing to get working URIBL and not use a forwarder, do you run a caching DNS on the same server and use server=localhost?

either don't use dnsmasq
- if there's already working recursive server, why to use dnsmasq?

or point dnsmasq to that server
- but if there's already working recursive server, why to use dnsmasq?
