Today, I had a long discussion with Abdulazziz about Plural-Forms
because one Debian file in stage2 uses them for talking about the
number of packages that may be installed.
Below is the IRC log
My conclusion is that the appropriate header for Arabic is:
Plural-Forms: nplurals=4; plural=n%100==1 || n==0 ? 0 : n%100==2 ? 2 : n%100>=3 &&
n%100<=10 ? 2 : 3;
which is supposed to mean than Arabic has 4 plural forms:
1st (singular) is used for 0 as well as 1 and 101, 201, etc
2nd (double) is used for 2 as well as 102�, 202 and so on
3rd (3 to 9) is used for 3 to 9 as well as 103 to 109, 203 to 209, etc
4th is used for the rest
Do you think this is correct�? Is the Plural-Forms header above
correct regarding to this�?
abdo bubulle: we do have some documentation on Arabeyes that talks about this, but
its outdated... hold on
abdo bubulle: the arabeyes standard says the third form is used when there
are 3 to 10 things, and the fourth form when there are 11 or more. thats it.
abdo its not really 100% accurate but thats the standard arabeyes is using.
so be it :). In reality the third form would also be used for numbers like 101, 102,
103...110, and 201, 202 and so on
abdo so in other words, the first 10 numbers after a hundred are treated
like the first 10 numbers after 0

plurals header. It just says: "Plural-Forms: nplurals=4" should I just use it?

abdo I think I have it figured it out, in Arabic, hundreds dont play a
part. so, 101 is treated exactly the same as 1, so it is singular. 102 is considered
double etc...

reproduced but some deep understanding of the syntax is needed..:-)
