This is not true. GIJ accepts these options too. It further accepts their equivalent options -ms and -mx. I built docbook-defguide with GIJ the last days and made use of these options, because with the default values, I get an java.lang.OutOfMemory error too. The only JVM than seems to not support these options is SableVM (to my knowledge ... I played with the JVMs a bit for docbook-defguide).
