this is possible in all browsers apart from ns4 which will

we could set border="0" for that image and it would in fact work but then we wouldnt be using legal html.

I'm already used to ugly in NS. as long as it works, I think it's OK.

we could also reverse the idea. so if you remember the
serach-suggestion i made some time ago with the textfield
followed by that image so it looked like a part of the
top-navigation. if we imstead of that _first_ have the image
(which now is just html-text )and then the textfield:

+-----------------------------+
+ SEARCH! + text-field +
+-----------------------------+

oh well, see attached gif

maybe that is counter-intuitive but on the plus side we will have

- search-area is very consistent with navtop
- enter/return work everywhere (or should at least)
- legal html

yup, we all liked it in first place, but weren't sure whether it'll work. So may be we try, and if there are problems we revert to the ugly one? Please send the patch + gif, I don't think I have it. thanks!

Hmm, the seach form at http://everything2.com/ uses an image as the
submit button. Though I still can do Enter-to-submit. Is it because
mozilla is cool, or does it work in other browsers/platforms? it seems
to work in NS as well.>
