I see 2 senses:
1. The narrow sense described in ticket #70042 comment #2. This is the
definition which sounds most natural to me, although I would argue the actual
definition could be a little wider, including variables like SERVER_SOFTWARE.
2. The wider sense defined in the RewriteCond Directive section, which includes
variables like REMOTE_HOST.

#1 applying to a subset of #2, #1 would be a hyponym of #2.

The CGIVar Directive and FallbackResource Directive sections attest #2, which
confirms that httpd uses "server variable" as a autohyponym which I would
consider quite confusing. The risk of confusion is high and pointing to a
definition of at least the intended sense would be a minimum.
