If ticket #70042 comment 4 is right, then consistent spelling would indeed be a
good start. But it leaves considerable confusion. A glossary entry
acknowledging both senses would further help. As for real solutions, 2 options
would be avoiding the term, or linking to the specific sense used.

To illustrate with a particularly confusing statement, if the above claims are
correct, one can state that “Some Server-Variables (like REMOTE_HOST) are not
server variables.”


By the way, there is already a glossary entry for “Environment Variable”;
linking “environment variables” to it would clarify that part.
