1) To save anyone else some time -- my ACF was caued by register_globals being on (to support a legacy site, I have since told to update their code now :-) ONce that was off, it worked.
2) Now of course I hit the fact that a number of files in the Source distribution are still Zend-encoded, at least at the original posted link .
