For that group of customers perhaps.  For me the value of the mailing 
list value was in the discussion of ideas and problems/solutions that 
everyone reading the list benefited from.

Indeed this is what gave me the most benefit of belonging to 
OpenSRS/Tucows rather than sourcing my domain registrations through 
other providers.

With the one-to-one communications between the reseller and the support 
team there is no "community" and no discussion of ideas any more.

I might as well shop around now to find the cheapest provider of domains 
and who can also provide the easiest solution for scripting the domain 
lookup/registration/management into my website.

Without the community there is nothing here now but another big 
registrar of domain names like all the others.
