Hi, I made a feature request for SRV records to be added to the MDNS service some years ago. As people on this list probably know, they would allow people to map services to ports on the domain and carry out domain-level load balancing. As you told me, I was in the minority in requesting this feature.
However things seem to have changed now, as Google is using SRV records to allow Google App users to map their talk service. This allows non-Google users to use the groups chatting/conferencing facilities. http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34143 We have just had a request from one of our clients to add these records and will have to inform him this functionality is not available with the MDNS service. I'm sure this will end in him moving the DNS away to the many providers who have already introduced SRV. Considering Google's adoption of this record and the increasing number of people turning to Google Apps, could we possibly get some movement on this feature request?
