When I first read Mr. Spragues original post, I laughed, sat back, and waited for the club to provide a little history-of-the-Doobies lesson, to this obviously misinformed individual.

I've been reading the posts on the list, and I think a thorough discussion of the many aspects of the SMB Band billing itself as "original Doobies", must unfortunately include why Chet & Corny continued to perform with the band after they found out about the deceptive billing. (I'm giving Dave the benefit of the doubt, as he should be considered an "original Doobie".) It's my understanding that Dave, Chet, and Corny, did not have anything to do with the use of the name in the advertising of the gigs. It was the butler! No... Sorry,. I guess the producer and publicist for the SMB band get credit for that brilliant marketing shiest. To me, however, the fact that the guys in the band continued to perform once they knew of the billing, shows at least some degree of complicity, and is ethically inexcusable.

Hope you all are doing well! I'll get off my soapbox now.

Oh, yeah, I got a box set from Rhino last Friday. (They're sending me some in the mail, but it was killing me hearing you all talk about it, so I went and picked one up.) I was tearing the clearwrap off in the parking garage elevator. As you might imagine, I couldn't wait to see my photo in the booklet. As those of you who got a copy emailed from me probably noticed, Corney was cropped off the left side. I also got a nice surprise as I checked out the rest of the booklet. My image of Bobby LaKind is used as the inset on pg. 80! (By the way, both the photos were taken at the benefit concert for Bobby, October '92, not '87.)

The set is awesome! There are songs I wish were on it, but I say that about every best of/ boxset. In my opinion, Rhino and the Doobies did a great job.

To the Doobie Brothers: Thanks for 29 years of music that makes me feel good, down to my soul!

Cheers,    Joe

Wholly appropriate. I have personally experienced live performances from
Chet and Cornelius and appreciated them right along with many other brothers
and sisters. They are certainly due some laurels.
