As Tommy has stated in numerous articles over the years and in the Box Set
booklet, many songs like that he wrote, like "Osborne/Long Train Runnin'",
didn't necessarily have "lyrics"...he would make up new lyrics for these
songs every night. It wasn't until these songs would be recorded by the
Doobies that actual "lyrics" would stick.
So, the question is, can you identify the Doobie Brothers' song to which
these Mystery Lyrics originally belonged (for at least 1 night)?
BTW, these Lyrics are original Tommy Johnston lyrics:
I don't have to keep on living in every single day.
Everything will bring you to action gonna put you along the way.
I fought a Louisiana way, I took my baby to be there when I come to the
gate.
I don't wanna cry, I just want her there...
I can her you comin' in the distance, but your voice don't make my ears.
Dirty like a dog in the alley, with your body there but you're here, yeah.
I'm gonna love my baby there. Get me a job that puts me there.
And I don't want to ever let you go...
Even though you thought your life was livin' down the side of a south side
market, baby,
You can rub your rags to your riches and you got no place to stay.
I'm rockin' with my baby, she's smilin', hopin' that my love will come her
way.
I don't want to ever let you go...
Ya know, these lyrics would STILL make a really cool song...
