About a week ago I finished HUGE road trip. I covered 8,000 miles (OK,
it was only 7,981) and was in 20 states. The main purpose of this trip
was to visit all my siblings and their families, my parents, my
grandmother and my darling daughters. I also got to see quite a bit of
this gorgeous country of ours: from the beaches of Florida to the
rolling hills of Wisconsin to the flatlands of Kansas to the mountains
(and snow) of Colorado to the barrenness of west Texas to the swamps of
Louisiana and back to the beaches again.

What does this have to do with the Doobies you ask?

I took a bunch of pictures on this trip. One is of the street signs on
the corner of Bourbon and TOLOUSE STREETs in New Orleans. One is of
Mexico just SOUTH OF THE BORDER, south of El Paso (I really was in El
Paso when I took the picture). There are several pictures of the ol'
BLACKWATER - Mississippi River from New Orleans all the way upriver to
northern Minnesota. There are a few of DARK EYED CAJUN WOMEN in
Louisiana. I got to watch a STAMPEDE in New Mexico (OK, it was just a
few range cattle, but they were running...if you can call it that). I
don't know the real origin of the song SLIPPERY ST PAUL, but I was in
St Paul, Minnesota too. AND, I went to the "Sleepy little town down
around San Antonio" -- CHINA GROVE. I could make lots of other Doobie
references to my trip, but you get the idea.

AND, let me tell you, there was plenty of time to listen to the box set
on this trip. In fact, since the box set I had ordered was delivered to
my house while I was already on the road, I had a friend send it to my
brother's house in Minneapolis so I could pick it up while I was there.
It got to travel with me the last 5,000 miles anyway.

I just had to share part of my trip with you. I imagine that lots of
people have been to Toulouse Street, but not too many have actually
been to China Grove!
