I rode through Northern California today (15 hours geez), and visited the
place of my birth for the frist (no second) time in celebration of my 40th
birthday. What a hoot. I observed Mt. Shasta, climbed a hill near Hayfork,
raced a blonde in a Mazda, and waded in the Pacific near Mendocino. I had a
day's break between my cleint in Medford, Oregon and the ones in the San
Francisco area. I reflected on a lot of stuff in reviewing my first 40
years. I confessed regrets and chuckled at successes and trials, but most
of all celebrated life and how blessed I am as a man. It was a long trip
alone, but I did not feel lonely at all.

As I passed through Ukiah, I stopped at a small bar to have dinner. In one
brief moment, I reflected on the impact that The Doobie Brothers', and
especially Tommy Johnston's music has had on my life. Yes, I could detect
the fresh clean smell of the pines. I could not say that I would have ever
picked up the guitar had I not heard his music, or sensed the Doobs impact
on me. And I can't say what course my life would have taken, without the
impact of being able to pick up the axe to clear my head, relax, and impress
my girlfriend (wife). Today, my kids know the Doobie Brothers by name, and
eagerly point out photos of themselves with the Doobies to friends. My 7
year old son asks to skip baseball practice when it conflicts with his
guitar lesson (No, he is not named Tommy, hehehe).

What a priviledge. A milestone in my life was met, when I was able to
politely and confidently shake Tom Johnston's hand backstage at the Laughlin
Fan Club kick-off, look him in the eye, smile, and express just this
sentiment. Each concert I attend, a little voice says in the back of my
head, "This could be the last Doobies Concert you ever get to see, Roger."
I applaud as if it was.

The new CD is about to be released, (and geez!!! on my 40th), and again, the
Doobs have been intruded upon by the 1 percent of those who have forgotten
Laurin's, and basic etiquette's, procedures for Life.

Please stay patient Doobs. I wanted to say thank you to the Doobie Brothers
for bearing up under the pressure of the road to keep us entertained over
the decades, but especially over the last 13 years. I wanted to thank them,
and especially Big Mike, Pat, Cris, and Keith for being accessible to the
fans, and extrememly patient backstage.

Look forward to seeing Doob friends in Hotlanta....
