I have been thinking about the Doobie Brothers, versus "Doobie Brothers
Band Members" issue for some time since 1997, after Marc Russo, when asked
where the Doobie Brothers were by a reporter backstage, stepped aside and,
gesturing to Pat, Tom, Big Mike et al. said "Not me....These are the guys
over here...." That intrigued me.
My best thoughts on this are: I liken' the core Doobie Brothers to a
business partnership. There are Partners, who own a piece of the venture.
Then there are the members of the band, who may or may not be "Partners."
Say in a Chapter 'S' corporation, which the Doobs may be, Parners are the
principals who hold equity and have a permanent stake in the business.
They draw their income as risk payments from the overall anticipated
profitability of the venture, and then hopefully reap the rewards at the
end of the fiscal year if the business makes a good gross margin on its
activities. Partners may even participate in the sister company ventures
of the principals (motorcycle shops etc). Every other member of the firm
(band) is paid on a non-equity status, or as an employee (albeit WELL paid
in this case I hope). All this is only my speculation though.
In my own business, I was a member of the firm.....but never was accepted
into the core equity group until after 10 years of service...and
only....after I had won Home Depot, Williams-Sonoma, Walmart, Crate &
Barrel, The Disney Store and Eddie Bauer as clients. Then finally the
Partnership started to notice and struck a deal for me to hold a Partner
equity position in the firm. No doubt that Band Members in the past have
gotten frustrated and thought "dang man, what's it gonna take?" just like
I did for a while.
P.S. Doobs.....I will work for food money............hehehhehehe

BE a Doobie Brother? I've been trying to make sense of it and can't. Guy
looks like his schedule is pretty free. When will he be adopted? Marc
Russo would be free if it weren't for wailing on Coke and Clorox
commercials...heavy, Marc. And then there's Skylark. The Doobs have always
had base players (ie Willie Weeks). My imagination is galloping into a
whirlwind of speculations but I'm sure someone out there knows the real
"Behind the Music" story on Paradoobies. If not, want me to
speculate?(that sounds kinda gross, doesn't it?)
