Excellent question!

Yes, that was Jeff, and acc'd to Tiran, that almost didn't get on the
record. Apparently Ted Templeman, the producer, wasn't crazy about it from a
hit single standpoint (namely, it was on the B side of something, I recall,
and it was probably a pain in the ass to remix it without the solo).

Personally, I think there was some significance to it relative to Jeff's
imminent departure. Certainly his finest hour on record as a Doobie, I
believe.
