what will be the cost of the computer system for digital Id cards in the U.K?
In principle, I am all for a central ID System, which should make things a lot
easier for the public,
In practice, the Government has a long track record of stuffing up any IT
Procurement project that they undertake. Starting with poorly defined
requirements, through requirements creep, to very poor testing of the finished
project, budget overruns and last, but not least; security issues.
It's a shame, but I suspect that it will all end in tears.
Oh, you can have fun with this.
Until 'they' decide what data they want it to hold, they can't size the
system. How many transactions/second do they expect and what size will they be.
how big and fast will the server(s) need to be, even if it is cloud based. The
servers have to be physical artifacts and not just 'out there somewhere' and
will there be an Internet package mileage calculation done? If the hardware is
in Britain, it will be powerful and how will the power needs affect Net zero?
Is it possible that it could be distributed to reduce data mileage? Every time
data passes through a switch or router or transport device there is a power
cost.
Lots and lots of questions....
How many programmers and system testers will they require and where will they
come from? Are they hiring yet?
