Until  'they' decide what data  they want it to hold, they can't size

The political aspects to this are just as likely to stop this project as the practical issues. My wife is somewhat sensitive about data protection, so she has looked into this. The Government's own announcement simply talks about nationality and other items needed by an employer, but the interwebs talk about Driving Licence details and even Bank Account details.

Some of you will recall that some years ago the Government wanted to digitise our health records, The main problem with that was that they wanted to sell our data to third-party organisations (read drug companies) and this caused such a stink that they effectively abandoned the project. As a result, we have to tell hospital consultants about our health record because they can't read it. Similarly, our GPs cannot access details of tests and things that they didn't order. (I had a fairly major health test ordered by a hospital consultant some weeks ago, but it still hasn't appeared on my record.)

I predict either a half-baked attempt that is full of bugs or abandonment.
