I would HIGHLY recommend that you get C# 2008 Express edition (it is FREE)

And then buy Head First C#.

 

I also come from a self taught VB background and reading that book alone got
me up to speed on C# and OOP (that's where it is all at anymore)

for web apps: Microsoft ASP.Net 2.0 Step by step
for database apps: Microsoft Ado.Net 2.0 Step by step

all these books are from MS Press
