"I'll be checking out the scenery
>From as high as I can be
Come let faith be your garden
Always changing always still
Still breathing"

While talk of the quarantine lifting might be filling the streets of Drache,
the news wouldn't reach the neighboring Isles of Myst for perhaps a day or
more. And none from the Myst wharves had yet to enter the DragonMyst Inn to
speak of any notification of the Drachian harbour inspection, if they even
had wind of it.

As such, on an afternoon, Kylie continued to wait for the gryphon ride, her
transportation of choice, to Drache, a city she understood to still be under
quarantine. Sure, flying might be an unnatural sensation, and it was true
she'd had a few other means of transportation offered to her, but Kylie
wanted to stick with her own plan: get to Drache as soon as possible.
Turning down Ben's offer to bring her by ship hadn't won her any future
favours either. No one could claim she wasn't her mother's stubborn
daughter.

She'd packed a satchel of basic items and it rested now on the floor near
the hearth. Khelti brought her a mug of brandied tea and Kylie eased into
the comfort of the sofa to sip the brew slowly, wondering if the letter
addressed to Shyne in care of the Guardhouse of Drache had reached its
destination yet. The short note merely told her friend that Kylie was
concerned about her, and would be arriving in Drache as soon as she could
catch a ride.

Would Jackson come to see her off? Probably not, with his tight schedule of
commissioned work to do. Kylie wasn't sure he understood why she'd passed up
his offer to use his traveling amulet. She did her best to vocalize her
uneasiness with magical entities, explaining her past with Sephyr had
scarred her views significantly. Yet she knew it had sounded as though she
didn't trust Jackson, which wasn't the case at all. Speaking those words had
given life to the past once more, and Kylie wondered how she'd ever let go
of it. While both her and Jack's pasts clung to them separately, she knew
she had to clear space in her life for new relationships, new opportunities.

Kylie had been surprised to hear Jackson had already traveled briefly to
Drache, but hid her disappointment that they would not be traveling together
now. She had teased him, telling him he had to remain on the island because
her parents were due to arrive within a fortnight and Jackson must entertain
them. Then she laughed and assured him she'd be back by then. His thoughtful
words that he would miss her remained in her heart and made her want to
return before she'd even left the town.

As Kylie stirred from her revelry, a messenger entered the inn and declared
to one and all that the gryphon transportation was canceled for today and
most likely tomorrow, due to an injured beast. Kylie frowned and sighed.
Didn't they have more than one of these flying mammoths around for reliable
transport? Kylie sipped her tea and studied the fire, wondering if she'd
ever make it to Drache, a city she had hoped to never see again, and Shyne,
a woman she had never imagined she would grow to love like a sister.

"she looked so fine,
i said baby what's on your mind?
she said 'i want to run like the lion
released from the cages,
released from the rages
burning in my soul tonight...'"
