Well, at least I didn't drill a hole through the "badge" on the front panel.. ! How many Rangers have you seen with the toggle switch or pilot light drilled right through the "Viking's" eye!?!?

As Garey points out, it would certainly take away from its value. It's easy to accomplish the same thing by making an adapter with about 8" of wire, a female jack on one end, and a male on the other... bring the connector out via this cable to a jack below the front panel. RS has the female 1/4" jacks w/housing to do a neat job of this without breaking out the (cringe) drill bits... :-) 73 John

I did one about 30 years ago because I got tired of reaching around the side of the receiver, between the receiver and speaker, to try and pull out that right angle plug (not an easy trick) when I wanted the speaker on.
By the way, the front panel phone jack is not exactly wonderful either, since you then have this long phone plug backshell and cord sticking out between the AF Gain and Function switch. This can be a problem, depending upon whether you are right or left handed.
As for selling it, the value would depend upon whether the prospective buyer wanted a receiver to use, or one to sit on the shelf and admire.
