Suddenly I'm missing my Collins S-Line.
Tonight I've noticed that my "new" TR-7 has a nasty frequency stability
problem that's very noticeable on CW. When I begin a transmission, the
sidetone -- and the transmitted frequency -- is low and moves up a KHz
or so as I transmit, then seems to stabilize, more or less. Activating
the passband tuning or RIT drops the freq back down to where it started,
then it drifts back up. I haven't gotten any bad reports on SSB, but --
obviously -- my CW contacts must constantly re-tune. I like vintage
rigs, but hadn't counted on recreating the sound of a Harley oscillator
with my Drake (!), By the way, my freqency readout is stable. How is
CW generated in this rig. Is it true CW or an audio tone, like in the
old Colins 32S-1?
What's happening and how do I fix it, please.
