Karl,
To adjust the T-4X carrier oscillator, assuming both filters are good, C2
should be set for equal power out in both USB and LSB. You can do this by
unballancing the carrier with R4, adjusting C2 for equal power out in both
sidebands with the gain control fully CCW and the mic keyed, then re-null
the carrier with R4 / C6.
You can now match the R-4 and T-4X BFO / carrier oscillators. If you
have the manual for the T-4X the proceedure is there. If not here it is ....
1. Put both the R-4 and T-4X bandswitch to 3.5
2. Select either USB or LSB on both the T-4X and R-4 ( Both the R-4 and T-4X
must be in the same sideband position )
3. Set the R-4 PASSBAND tuning to 4.8 with the knob at 12 O'Clock
4. Set the T-4X to SPOT
5. Set both the R-4 and T-4X PRESELECTORS to about 6.5 ( fine tune for
loudest canary sound )
6. Adjust C61 of the R-4 for zero beat, or zero " chirps "
If C61 cannot be adjusted to zero beat then the 5595 khz oscillator (
2nd mixer ) crystal has drifted off frequency and probably will need to be
replaced.
