I have all three as well. The MS-4 is a 5 x 7 speaker and the other two
are 4" speakers. I really don't see the MS-8 as being so terrible, but
it's not going to replace my Vandersteens! I'm 95% CW, so resonant
peaks can be a GOOD thing.
I do use both the internal and the external speakers in the R-8A.

I have all three speakers in use and though the MS-4 speaker probably
sounds best of the three it is of course larger and heaver which
increases the base response. The MS-7 and MS-8 are front firing and
thus in my opinion sound fine for their size and considering that the
TR-7 and R-8 internal speakers fire up and to the side respectfully.
