I find it hard to beat the #755 bulb from CM and many others. It's the same bulb as the original #47, 6.3V @150 mA, just with an expected lifetime of 20,000 hours instead of the 3,000 specified for the #47.

No modifications needed, no "hot spots" in the dial, and with the correct lighting gel (Lee Lighting 172 or Roscolene 853) looks exactly like it did when it came from the factory.

I've been using them for 15 years, and haven't had to replace one yet.

For those looking for replacement dial lights for the Drake "4" Line radios, try the Mode Electronics LED bayonet replacement series, available from most major electronic suppliers. There are several colors, but the drop-in white replacements are 55-110W. They are exact replacement size, have a "frosted" lense, and have a slightly "cooler" white color. Excellent alternatives to older stock incandesant bulbs and cost about $5.00 each.
