It all depends on what you mean by properly. The VF-1 had relatively high output, and would drive my Eico 720 quite well. The 720 had fairly high drive requirements. But, the VF-1 was not the most stable VFO, even when new. It was, however, the same VFO as in the Heathkit DX-100. In an era of 250Hz CW filters, or better, stability is more important than in ye olde (AM and LC filter) days.
