The best way, if you are doing anyting major, is to unbolt those TO-220 devices. The board will pull straight up and out just like the other boards with Molex connectors. You can clean off and re-goop the white stuff wile you are at it. It' kind of a pain to get the screws back in, but you will only have to do it once in your lifetime. I never considered trying to unsolder the wires from the board and leave the devices in place - in general, I don't like to unsolder stuff unless it's absolutely necessary, for various reasons.
