Back in the day, tantalums were not very tolerant of surge current. Manufacturers who used them in power supply circuits learned the lesson the hard way. Does anyone remember Fosgate car stereo amps (before they became Rockford-Fosgate)? Best case, the caps shorted. Worst case, they exploded like litte firecrackers. That may have chenged over the years due to design and materials improvements. There probably is not much benefit in using tantalums here, I would guess.
