I think I've found the "answer" to the "no output" problem I previously
described. I think the tuning at the lower levels on the T-4X may have been
messed with at some time and I will have to take slug measurements (a Drake
tech, 25 or so years ago, told me to never touch those if nobody had ever
touched them before and I'm inclined to put a great deal of stock in that
statement). However, these Twins I have are of questionable heritage and I
have to peak the preselector settings for max output AFTER I have peaked for
best receive.

Now, I seem to have a couple of issues with these rigs and I'm asking opinions
as a way of saving some time.

The transmitter doesn't seem to want to tune with the LOAD set to less than
about 7. Am I right in thinking one of the plates may be shorting? I can't
get a dip on the PLATE cap until the LOAD is advanced past about 7.

Second issue: when the R-4A is in control of the frequencies, the signals seem
to "jump around" in frequency by evidence of changing beat note. pressing on
the main tuning knob makes the frequency warble quite a bit. If I move control
to the T-4X, everything is rock-solid. Could there be something stressing the
PTO mechanically?
