GM All:

I routinely operate several different 1st and second Generation Solid State and Hybrid transceivers here. Most of my operations are CW. One of the things I really miss on ALL of my transceivers is a quick way to spot onto another station precisely. Every sidetone is different, and once the sidetone is set to match the CW offset the trick becomes matching the pitch of the received station to the sidetone pitch. I HATE having to reduce the output setting on the TR7 using the carrier control every time I want to hear the reference tone and have been thinking of some other way to do this.

Has anyone come up with a good "spot" function for the TR7? Dont have an RV not sure if that would do what I want or not..perhaps..but switching wafer switches again and again to get spotted is not healthy for the switches.

I have considered two approaches.

1. mod the STORE switch to pull the carrier control to the lowest setting. I think this would be easy but still places the TR in transmit mode and so the rx signal is masked. Still provides a reference "reminder" of the tone pitch and is equivalent to the way I do it now without the pot wear and tear.

2. mod the STORE switch to run the sidetone simultaneously during rx so both the tone and the rx station could be heard. This would be ideal and the tone could be also be triggered by the store switch or another switch remotely (like a modified lever on a straight key for example)

I've looked around at published mods but have not found anything...Any ideas?

Thanks

Curt
