Hi Michael:
Other than the regulator and current limit circuits, which are pretty
standard stuff, what will probably be the first issue will be hum on
your transmit signal due to deteriorating main filter caps. Exact
replacements are not to be reasonably found--minimum order qty puts them
really out of reach and no one that I found stocks them. There are a
couple of very similar replacements to be had and they will fit in the
same frames and same top mounting hardware.
It is possible that the transformer could be getting loose and vibrating
which gets the top plate going along with it. Originals had a couple of
rubber bumpers on the capacitor bars that can rest on the top plate and
damp vibrations.
Of course they all can create quite a "Thunk" when first poered up..that
can be eliminated with a inrush limiter. Schematics, manuals, and the
inrush mod can all be found via google for Drake PS-7 mods. Try the
WB4HFN website for alot of good info.
