Norm, Check the contacts on relay R-2 at the back right corner of the chassis. The contacts can become dirty and kept the 9 Mhz crystal oscillator in “ CW offset “ mode. Its also possible you have a bad LSB filter. Check the 9 mhz carrier oscillator with a frequency counter or by switching back and forth between Sideband / Sideband X positions with the antenna disconnected and no received signals. You should hear approximately the same pitch in noise between the two positions. The adjustment is C-130. If you cannot balance the noise and have the carrier oscillator near 9 mhz the LSB filter is probably bad. This is very common to all TR-4’s.
